Elizabeth, Owner and Guide
Elizabeth, a mother and Montessori-trained guide, moved to Portland, Oregon in 2007 with her now-husband, Tim. She received her AMI Montessori degree under the guidance of Ginni Sackett at Montessori Institute Northwest (now Montessori Northwest) in 2009 and worked for several years with mentor-teacher Allison O’Day at Laurelhurst Montessori in Northeast Portland, before leaving to raise her daughter. She has worked in both traditional and Montessori early childhood environments and believes that the Montessori approach offers children the unique opportunity to grow of their own accord, at their own pace, according to their own interests.
“The beauty of the Montessori environment speaks for itself”, she says, “in the way the children thrive daily and express their innate joy.”
Elizabeth enjoys spending time with her daughter and husband; going for walks and bike rides; relaxing with friends; reading books; gardening; cooking with and eating fresh local food; and traveling with her family, especially to hot springs and soaking pools.
Sadie graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. After graduating, Sadie spent two years teaching Preschool, Elementary, and Junior High School students in Japan. It was during that time she grew passionate about Montessori early childhood education.
Sadie is currently attending A to I (Assistants to Infancy) training at Montessori Northwest in Portland, Oregon with an anticipated completion date of Summer 2019.
In her spare time Sadie enjoys jogging, reading books, and drinking a hot cup of tea.
The greatest sign of success for a teacher… is to be able to say, ‘The children are now working as if I did not exist.’ – Maria Montessori
